Staten Island, NY – Former University of South Florida standout wide receiver and punt returner Marcus Edwards has been named wide receivers coach at Wagner College, Director of Athletics/Head Football Coach Walt Hameline has announced.

A native of Mayo, FL, Edwards earned a communications degree in 2007 and was a four-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team member. A productive and reliable wide receiver, Edwards hauled in 73 passes for 928 yards and three TDS from 2005-08. Last season, he played in all 13 games with eight starts and caught 19 passes for 259 yards. His top season statistically was his sophomore year of 2006 when he snared 27 receptions for 328 yards. 

Edwards worked with USF's receivers and punt returners as a volunteer in spring practice.

At Mayo's Lafayette High School, Edwards was a three-sport athlete, competing in football, basketball and baseball. On the gridiron, he was a two-time All-State performer in Class A and had 22 catches for 490 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior.

“We're excited to add Marcus Edwards to the Wagner program,” said Hameline. “As a top player and student at a major college program in the BIG EAST, Marcus knows what it takes to compete on a high level both on and off the field. He will serve as a mentor and a role model for our wide receiving corps and we are fortunate to add him out staff.”

The opening on the Wagner staff was recently created when former wide receivers coach Ivery Gaskins took on the role of Assistant for Academics. & Compliance/ Director of Player Development.
