Staten Island, NY- Recently graduated Wagner softball star
Andrea Lazzari (Reno, NV/ Wooster) has received yet another major honor, having been named to the
ESPN the Magazine/ CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team - University Division.
Lazzari garnered this honor after completing a spectacular softball season while maintaining a 3.83 grade point average as a dual major in Sociology and Education.
This season, Lazzari was already named 2009 Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Year for the second straight year, First Team All-NEC (1b), Two-time NEC Player of the Week, Louisville Slugger/ NFCA Division I All-Region First Team,
ESPN the Magazine/ CoSIDA Academic All-American District 1 First Team as well as being named Wagner College's Con Edison Student Athlete of the Year.
The offensive powerhouse led the Seahawks with a team-best .412 batting average while setting school records with 16 home runs, 70 hits and 338 putouts. The 16 home runs are also the most ever hit by a student-athlete in the NEC. The slick infielder also notched team-highs in doubles (11), runs (42), total bases (129), slugging percentage (.759), on-base percentage (.448) and fielding percentage (.981). Defensively, the senior recorded a .981 fielding percentage with 17 assists.
For her career, she set school marks in home runs (34), doubles (50), total bases (390), and putouts (1,124) while tying for the top spot in base hits (238). She also was the NEC Rookie of the Year in 2006 and a three-time First Team All-NEC selection.
