Doscher Named NEC Offensive Rookie of the Year and First-Team All-NEC; Six Other Seahawks Named All-NEC

Nick Doscher
Somerset, NJ – Freshman QB Nick Doscher (Staten Island, NY/ Moore Catholic) was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Offensive Rookie of the Year and First-Team All-NEC, while junior punter Kyle Muir (Spencerport, NY/Hudson CC) and junior return specialist Frantz Placide (Miami, FL/Archbishop Curley Notre Dame) were named NEC First-Team All-Conference in the Special Teams department.

Named to the All-NEC Second Team were three members of the Seahawk offensive line – senior Matthew Martin (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) and juniors Joe Feriozzi (Margate, NJ/St. Augustine Prep), and Cleveland Green (Hollywood, FL/ McArthur). Defensively, senior defensive tackle Joseph Harkins (Washington, DC/St. John's College HS) was named to the All-NEC Second Team.

Each of these players played an instrumental role in Wagner finishing with a 6-5 overall record and a 5-3 mark in the NEC. The Seahawks, picked eighth in the NEC Preseason Coaches Poll, were the surprise team of the year in the conference, finishing in a tie for third place. In addition, the Seahawks were the only NEC team to knock off first-place Central Connecticut St. this season.

Doscher was named NEC Rookie of the week five times this season and was the league's Offensive Player of the Week once. He led Wagner in both passing yards (1330) and rushing yards (769). He completed 58% of his passes and threw or eight TDs while rushing for 13 TDs. He topped the 100-yard rushing mark on four occasions and his 769 rushing records are a single-season record for a Seahawk quarterback.

Muir was number one in the NEC with a 40.2 yards per punt average, a figure that ranked 23rd in the nation and tops in the NEC. His booming, high arching punts helped Wagner rank ninth nationally in net punting average and No. 1 in the NEC at 37.21. The let-footed Muir had six punts of 50 yards or more, 16 downed inside the 20-yard line and seven that were fair caught.

Placide opened the season with an 89-yard kickoff return vs. Stonehill (9/5) and capped the season with another 89-yard kickoff return for a TD vs. Albany (9/21). For the season, his 26.8 yards per kickoff return average ranks eighth nationally.

The trio of Martin, Feriozzi and Green played a huge role in Wagner ranking first in the NEC and 22nd nationally in scoring offense at 30.8 points per game.

Harkins, who often drew double teams from his nose tackle position, still managed to become Wagner's most productive defensive lineman with 41 tackles, 18 of which were of the solo variety. He also had seven tackles for loss for minus 26 yards, two sacks for minus 16 yards and had a team-high eight quarterback hurries.

“I am extremely proud that seven of our players were recognized for their efforts this season,” said Seahawk head coach Walt Hameline. “They are all deserving of their honors and I couldn't be happier for them.”

The voting was conducted by each of the nine NEC head coaches who were not allowed to vote for members of their own team.
