STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner College women's basketball team will embark on its 56th season in program history on Monday as the Seahawks host SUNYAC member SUNY Cortland at the Spiro Sports Center.
Following the Seahawks home-opener, Wagner travels to Patriot League member Lafayette on Thursday, Nov. 5 and Big East member St. John's on Saturday, Nov. 7 before coming back home for two games against A10 member Rhode Island and Metro member Rider.
Head Coach Terrell Coburn enters his 6th season at the helm of the Seahawks, starting his 11th season with the program. Coburn returns four players from the 2025-26 roster — senior Shamique Cummings, senior Jada Johnson, senior Saioa San Francisco, and sophomore Alivia Landy.
Landy returns after playing all 30 games for Wagner in her first year on Grymes Hill. One of five Seahawks to play in every game last season, Landy averaged 2.6 points and 1.9 rebounds in just under 10 minutes per game.
A total of 11 newcomers are welcomed onto the Green & White's squad, with seven transfers and four freshmen. For transfers, Wagner adds junior Fati Fall, junior Nahia Esnaola, junior Stella Sgro, junior Agatha Agba, junior Lana Beslic, and sophomore Sophia Priestley.
For the first-years, Coach Coburn adds freshman Layla Mapp, freshman Avery Blue, freshman Sylia Vigka, and freshman Ama Boampong onto the roster.
Vigka and Boampong spent time at the FIBA U18 Women's Basketball EuroBasket over the summer. Boampong and Vigka represented the Netherlands and Greece, respectively, at the tournament from July 31 to August 9 in Tulcea, Romania.
Last season, Coach Coburn had Wagner's defense at the top of the NEC in steals per game with 9.8. Wagner boasted the second-best scoring defense in the conference last year, holding opponents to just 59.6 points per game.
