Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College field hockey team picked up their second win of the young season with a 4-2 victory of Bucknell on Friday afternoon.
Throughout the first three quarters, Bucknell held onto a 1-0 lead after Lily Neilson found the back of the cage just five minutes into the game.
After going down 2-0 three minutes into the fourth, the Seahawks displayed an impressive showing of offense, coming alive in the final 10 minutes to score four unanswered goals.
Sophomore Pilar Lorenzini scored the first for the Green & White on a corner play less than one minute after the Bison extended their lead to two.
Sophomore Floortje Leunisse put away her second goal of the year to tie the game at two with eight minutes remaining. Two minutes later, the Breda, Netherlands native granted the Seahawks a 3-2 lead off of a rebound goal for her third of the season.
After the Bison decided to empty their net with four minutes remaining, Wagner found the back of the cage for the final time thanks to graduate student Cami Valor, scoring her third of the year.
Senior Emma Lofstedt, sophomore Charlotte Muller, Valor, and Lorenzini all recorded assists during the bout.
In net, freshman Saar van Dalen saved five shots for the fourth consecutive game, earning her second win of her collegiate career.
Overall, the Seahawks took 10 shots with eight being on target. Wagner and Bucknell both earned seven corner opportunities throughout the game.
Three out of the four Seahawk goals occurred directly after corner opportunities. Leunisse's second goal came on a rebound after a shot on target from sophomore Natalie McGivern put Bucknell's goalie out of position.
Next up, Wagner will travel to Burlington, VT to face-off against the Catamounts on Sunday, September 15 at 1:00 pm.
