Philadelphia, PA - The Wagner fencing program competed at the Philadelphia Invitational on Saturday to resume its 2023-24 campaign. The women's team picked up two wins at the event, while the men saw freshman Flavio Vinci continue his impressive debut season.
After leading the way with a 47-10 overall record in the first half of the season, Vinci went 12-3 across five matchups this weekend to improve to 59-13 — the best mark by a Seahawk this season.
Freshmen Charlie Dolan and Ismael Chavez also impressed at the event as they compiled nine wins each. Despite the solid performances, the men fell in all five competitions, with its 14-13 loss to Haverford to open the day being its smallest margin of defeat.
For the women, freshman Natalja Stiller paced the team with a 12-5 overall record across six competitions. Junior Katerina Cervenkova and sophomore Fanny Straub were second on the team in wins with eight apiece.
The three wins leaders helped the team pick up a 20-7 victory over Haverford and a dominant, 21-6 victory over FDU.
Both teams will look to come away with victories in their next competition, which is a dual meet scheduled for Wednesday, January 24, at Princeton.
