Staten Island - The Wagner College men's tennis team played its first home match of the spring schedule on Sunday, hosting Boston University on the indoor courts at the College of Staten Island.
Senior Omar Loutfy and junior Odeda Arazza both won third set tiebreakers in singles, but it wasn't enough to match BU's strength at the top of the lineup as the Seahawks fell 5-2.
The Terriers took the doubles point, combining a 6-2 opener at #3 with a 6-4 clinch at #2. The #1 doubles match was on-serve but left unfinished.
In singles, Wagner took the first completed set at #3 singles with Tejasvi Mehra running out to a 6-2 lead. However, BU's Jonah Dickson fought back and took the next two sets 6-1, 6-3.
Wagner junior Rodrigo Perez fell at #1 singles to Alejandro Licea, 6-1, 6-2. Graduate student Philip Lynch fell at #2 singles to BU's Corey Craig, 6-2, 6-2. Junior Jordan Hunte was shut out at #4 singles by Boston's Ben Letzer, 6-0, 6-0.
With the match clinched, Junior Odeda Arazza and senior Omar Loutfy played 10 point tiebreakers in lieu of third sets. Arazza won a tight contest at #5 over Cole Knutsen, 6-4, 3-6, 12-10. Loutfy won at #6 over Adrian Pawlowski, 6-1, 2-6, 12-10.
