HEMPSTEAD, NY  – The Wagner College field hockey team will kick off the 2021 fall season on Sunday afternoon as the Seahawks travel to Hofstra.

ALL-TIME HISTORY:
Sunday's contest is the third all-time meeting between the two schools, with the head-to-head series tied at 1-1.
Wagner's first ever game came against Hofstra back on August 30, 2019, with the Seahawks coming away victorious, 3-0, in Hempstead. Kira Mordvinov found the back of the net twice while the goalie tandem of Annabel Zandvoort and Justine van Spengler combined for five saves in the shutout.
2021 ROSTER:
Under the direction of third-year head coach, Nicole Miller, the 2021 Seahawks returns a majority of last spring's roster, highlighted by 17 returning players. Coach Miller added nine, eight of which are freshmen and one sophomore transfer.
This year's team returns brings back a quartet of All-Northeast Conference (NEC) honoroees from a season ago, led by First Team selection Agustina Deharbe. Joining Deharbe is Julia Cruces Pastorino, Joy Muller and Erin Franklin, who were each tabbed to the Second Team this past spring.
Deharbe's selection to the first team marked the first time in program history that a Seahawk has earned NEC First Team honors after she led the club in goals, assists, and points.

SEAHAWKS PICKED THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL:
Wagner was predicted to finish third in the annual NEC Preseason Coaches' Poll, with defending league champions, Rider, predicted to win the league. Fairfield, who captured the 2019 crown, was picked second followed by the Seahawks.

UP NEXT:
The home opener for Wagner is set for Friday, September 3 at the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex as the Seahawks squares off against the University at Albany Great Danes at 2:00 p.m.
