New Britain, CT - The Wagner College softball team dropped its final two road games of the regular season, falling 5-3 to Central Connecticut in game one, before losing game two by a score of 10-1 on Sunday.
With the two losses, Wagner now sits at 12-20 on the season and 8-20 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play, while CCSU improves to 22-9.
Game 1 Recap: CCSU 5-3 Wagner
After the Blue Devils scored four runs in the first inning, the Seahawks quickly cut into the deficit in the third inning.
After a double by junior
Penelope Russ and a single by graduate student
Zoe Bender, consecutive RBI singles by sophomore
Bianca Worthy and freshman
Keaghan Ward got the Seahawks on the board.
Two batters later, graduate student
Amelia Van Orman made it a one-run game with a sacrifice fly to left.
That is as close as Wagner would get, however, as CCSU added one run in the bottom of the third and closed out the victory.
The Seahawks held a 10-3 advantage in hits throughout the game, as Bender, Worthy, Ward, and junior
Natalie Del Ponte all had two hits during the contest.
Junior
Eve Harvey suffered the loss in the circle despite striking out eight batters in six innings.
Game 2 Recap: CCSU 10-1 Wagner
The Seahawks scored their lone run of the game in the fourth inning, as back-to-back doubles by Del Ponte and Van Orman got Wagner on the board.
Junior
Mackenzie Vogler also registered a hit during the contest.
In the circle, Van Orman was charged with the loss, going the distance and striking out one.
CCSU scored five runs in the first and five runs in the fourth inning to complete the sweep.
Wagner will close out the regular season next weekend, as the Seahawks play host to Mount St. Mary's on Saturday and Sunday.
