Princeton, NJ – The Wagner men's water polo team wrapped up its four-game weekend road trip by dropping a pair of games on Sunday to Fordham and No. 13 Bucknell in falling to 1-10 on the season and 0-3 in Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) play
Fordham 13, Wagner 9
The Green & White, who have shown moments of brilliance through the first three weeks of the season, continue to struggle closing out close games and the Seahawks' first game of the day against the Fordham Rams was no exception. The first half was a bitter, back-and-forth affair, as the teams entered the locker rooms all knotted up at six goals apiece. Fordham jumped out to a 2-0 lead to start the game, before the Seahawks' offensive trio of seniors
Matthew Miller,
Lachlan Trabinger, and freshman standout
Olivr Fodor all scored for Wagner. Fordham would respond, but sophomore
Vuk Bulajic would record a hat trick for himself in the second quarter to get the Seahwks to six goals by the half.
Bulajic started off the second half with his fourth goal on the day, but once again Fordham would respond, this time with a 6-0 run. Fodor would notch two more goals, but the Rams would take home the win by the score of 13-9.
No. 13 Bucknell 17, Wagner 5
After a tight, back-and-forth loss in their morning match, the Seahawks looked to bounce back against a tough opponent in the No. 13 Bucknell Bison. Freshman
Shaked Yacoby kept the Seahawks close in the first quarter with a pair of goals, ending the period trailing 3-2 heading into the second period.
However, in the second and third quarters, the Bison would outscore the Green & White 10 goals to one, with the Seahawks only goal coming late in the third quarter by senior
Matthew Miller. The game headed into the final stanza at 13-3 Bison, before an eventual final score of 17-5 in favor of Bucknell
The Bison were led by senior attacker and 2018 Second-Team All-American Rade Joksimovic, who tallied seven goals in the game, improving his season total to 46. Andu Vlasceanu (4), Logan Schofield (2), Jack Lewis (2), Scott Little (1), and Matt Blackwell (1) would round out the Bison scoring.
The Seahawks will be back in Staten Island next weekend, with a trio of games in the Spiro Sports Center. Following a 12:00 p.m. against the La Salle Explorers. The Green & White will then wrap up the weekend with George Washington at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Johns Hopkins at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
