Stony Brook, NY – The Wagner College softball team dropped the first of three straight non-conference contests on Tuesday afternoon, falling to Stony Brook by a score of 9-1.
Coming off a 3-1 week that included a sweep of Manhattan as well as the Seahawks' first Northeast Conference (NEC) victory of the season, a 4-0 shutout against Mount St. Mary's, Wagner drops to 8-17 on the season, while the Seawolves improve to 15-9.
The Seahawks scored their lone run of the contest in the third inning. After sophomore
Alexis Silinonte reached on an error, three singles by junior
Zoe Bender, senior
Karen Prihoda, and junior
Amelia Van Orman pushed a run across the plate for the Green and White.
Stony Brook scored all of its nine runs in the second inning in taking a commanding lead.
Following two complete game victories last week and a 0.50 ERA, freshman
Kayla Hooks was charged with the loss in the circle.
Next up, Wagner will travel to Rider for a non-conference doubleheader on Friday vs. the Broncs, starting at 2:30 pm.
