Staten Island, NY – In its last non-conference doubleheader of the season, the Wagner College softball team travels to Philadelphia, PA, for a two-game series at Drexel on Wednesday, with first pitch set for 2:00 pm.
Following today's games, the Seahawks open Northeast Conference (NEC) play with doubleheaders against LIU Brooklyn and Sacred Heart on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Friday's games will also mark the home opener for the Green and White.
Entering its last non-conference games, Wagner is 5-13 on the season. Most recently, the Seahawks earned a 10-7 victory over Quinnipiac as part of a split last weekend.
Last season's two-game set against Drexel on Grymes Hill featured plenty of drama, as the Seahawks pulled off a furious rally in game two to earn a split with the Dragons. Trailing 10-6 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Seahawks rallied for five runs, capped by a game-winning RBI single by
Karen Prihoda in earning an 11-10 victory.
Prihoda and sophomore
Zoe Bender are tied for the team lead with 14 hits and six RBIs apiece on the year, while senior
Stefanie Aplin leads Wagner with a .342 average.
Drexel comes into Wednesday's doubleheader with an 8-8-1 overall record, coming off a split against Delaware in the Dragons' CAA opener.
