Wagner Edged by Monmouth 12-11 Despite Five Goals from Carolyn Clark

Sophomore midfielder Carolyn Clark (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) tallied a career-high five goals but Monmouth scored the last three goals of the game to overtake Wagner 12-11 on Senior Day at Wagner College Stadium.

With the loss, Wagner falls to 3-12 on the season, 2-7 in Northeast Conference play while Monmouth Improves to 9-8, 7-2 in conference play.

Monmouth jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead before Wagner rallied to make it a 6-6 game at halftime. Three second half goals by Clark sandwiched around a goal by junior attack Dana Marchitelli (Annapolis, MD/South River), staked the Seahawks to a 10-8 lead with 10:06 to play. Rachel Feirstein, who paced Monmouth with four goals, then made it 10-9 with a goal at 9:08. Marchitelli then answered with her second goal of the game at the 6:14 juncture to put Wagner on top 11-9.

With 4:27 to go, Shawn Evans drew the Hawks to within one goal at 11-10. Just 26 seconds later, Feirstein tied the game at 11-11 before sinking a free position shot with 1:32 to play to lift Monmouth to the 12-11 win. In addition to Feirstein's four goals, Shawn Evans and Ali Pollock added three goals apiece for Monmouth.

Senior Teri Noll (Elbridge, NY/ Jordan-Elbridge Central), who was one of five seniors honored in a pre-game ceremony, added three goals in the final game of her career. Clark's five goals give 36 for the season which leads the Seahawks while Noll has 24 goals on the season.

Statistically, Monmouth out-shot Wagner 30-22 and led in draw controls 13-12 while the teams were even at 14-14 in ground balls. Senior Alex Johnston (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) had 11 saves in goal while Monmouth's Kirby Mundorf had eight saves. Today's loss marked the third time this season that Wagner has lost a game by one goal.

Wagner closes out the 2010 season with a road tilt on Wednesday, April 21 at 3:00 pm vs. Columbia.

NOTES – Wagner's five seniors – Janine Bright (Comak, NY/Commack), Johnston, Krista Malayter (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire), Noll and Alyssa Prima (Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) were honored in a pregame ceremony.
