Williamsburg, VA- The Wagner College women's golf team finished ninth last weekend at the ECAC Championships held at the Par 72, 6,345 yard Kiskiack Golf Club. Pacing the squad for the Seahawks was junior captain
Dena Smith (Highland Heights, OH / Beaumont), who tied for 33rd in the 55 person field.
Smith led the Green & White with rounds of 92-83 (175). Freshman
Miko Page (Brooklyn, NY / Edward R Murrow) was tied for 38th overall with a 180 (84-96) while sophomore
Kaitlin Osmundsen (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville) shot a 194 (97-97) for the 47th spot. Rounding out the Seahawk lineup in 50th and 52nd, respectively, were freshmen
Keri Muse (Sterling, VA / Dominion) and
Alyssa Kuhn (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville).
“Dena and Miko each had strong showings in one round of the tournament,” said assistant coach
Chris Fourman. “Unfortunately, Miko's came on Saturday and Dena's came on Sunday. Miko's 84 on Saturday and Dena's 83 on Sunday are signs of the talent that is present in our program and are building blocks from which we can grow. This was an extremely difficult golf course for the women to play, measuring nearly 6400 yards. Anytime players are hitting long irons and fairway woods into greens scores are going to be inflated. For both of these girls to have a round in the mid-80's is success. We are at Rutgers this weekend for their tournament where we are confident we will see more success from these two ladies and the rest of our young squad.”
Overall, the Univ. of Pennsylvania bested the field, carding a two-round total of 616 (310-306). Albany and Lehigh finished tied for second, recording a 634.
The Seahawks return to action Friday, October 9th when they travel to Piscataway, NJ to compete in the Rutgers Invitational.
