Final Stats
Emmitsburg, MD - Junior midfielder Krista Malayter (Cheshire, CT/ Cheshire) scored a career-high four goals while junior midfielder Jessica Richmond (Jenkintown, PA/ Jenkintown) added three goals but it was not enough as Mount St. Mary's recorded a 17-8 Northeast Conference victory over the Seahawks.
With the win, the Mountaineers improved to 7-5, 4-1 in the NEC while Wagner fell to 1-9 on the season and 1-3 in league play. The Mount jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before a pair of goals on free position attempts by Malayter and Richmond drew the Seahawks to within one at 3-2.
But the Mountaineers would go on to score seven of the next goals in building a commanding 10-3 halftime lead.
Freshman attacker Dana Marchitelli (Annapolis, MD/ South River) added a goal and an assist for the Seahawks while junior midfielder Cara Gonzalez (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) tallied an assist. Junior Alex Johnston (Manlius, NY/ Fayetteville-Manlius) had 12 saves while playing the entire game in goal.
The final team statistics were much closer than the final score might indicate as the Seahawks led in ground balls 20-19, were even in draw controls (13-13) and were out-shot by a narrow 32-28 margin.
Wagner is next in action on Sunday when the Seahawks host NEC foe Sacred Heart in a Noon start.
