Downingtown, PA –
2013 Northeast Conference (NEC) First Team selection Ian Miller (Downingtown, PA / Bishop Shanahan) joined Andrew Bailey in the ranks of affiliated baseball when he signed a professional contract with the Seattle Mariners. By inking the contract, Miller will forego his final season of eligibility and begin his professional career with the Pulaski Mariners of the Appalachian League.

"I am thrilled and proud of Ian as he embarks on his professional baseball career with the Seattle Mariners," said head coach Jim Carone. "Ian's selection in the draft as a junior is a testament to his tireless work ethic that has enabled him to become the player that he is today. We are excited to follow Ian's progress and add another player to Wagner College's strong history of professional baseball players."

The Keystone State native was selected by the Mariners with the 11th pick of the 14th round (#417) in the annual Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft.

"I'm extremely excited and fortunate to get the opportunity to play baseball for the Seattle Mariners," said Miller. "The chance to play professional baseball is something I have been working hard for since I was little."

Miller had one of the finest offensive seasons in school history, stealing a school and league-record 46 bases while ranking second with 77 hits and 46 runs en route to posting a .329 average. Additionally, his 46 swipes rank second nationally.

He also was the first student-athlete to be drafted from Wagner since Kyle Morrison was selected by Washington in the 32nd round in 2009, and was the first position player to be drafted since Joey DiGeronimo heard his name called by Baltimore in 2007.

"The opportunity to play baseball at Wagner has helped build me into the person I am today," Miller continued. "I am happy that I chose Wagner and am blessed to have the college community back me up as I venture into this chapter of my life."

Additionally, Miller is just the third position player with junior eligibility in the NEC to be drafted since 2005 and the first since Joe Francisco was tabbed in the 32nd round by the Atlanta Braves in 1999.

With Miller's signing all six NEC players that were selected in the 2013 draft have signed professional contracts.
