Stanford Profiled in Jaguars' Rookie 101 Video Series (7/13/12)

Jacksonville, FL – On Saturday night, as the Seahawks' put the finishing touches on their impressive 31-13 win at Central Connecticut, Jacksonville Jaguar rookie and 2012 Wagner graduate, #Julian Stanford,# tweeted a congratulatory message to his former teammates via @NECsports, a gesture that was noted by the announcers who described the NEC Game of the Week action on MSG+ and Fox College Sports.

Two days later, it was Stanford's turn to take the stage and help his team to its first victory of the season, turning in the best game of his young career, as the 6-1, 230-pound rookie outside linebacker registered three tackles, including a crunching hit in the backfield on Indianapolis running back Donald Brown which went for a two-yard loss (Note: The Stanford tackle occurs approximately 30 seconds into the highlight video).

After dropping their first two decisions of the season, this past Sunday's win over Indianapolis made the Jaguars a 1-2 team. Stanford made his NFL regular season debut on September 9 and made one special teams tackle while coming up with the first fumble recovery of his career in Jacksonville's 26-23 overtime loss at Minnesota. On September 16, the Jaguars fell to 0-2 following a 27-7 loss to Houston in their home opener.

It was back to the road last week, where Stanford's three-tackle effort helped lift the Jaguars to a 22-17 win. For the season, Stanford has four tackles to go along with the one fumble recovery. On Sunday, Jacksonville will look to make it two in a row when the Jaguars host the Cincinnati Bengals at 4:05 pm.

In donning uniform number 57 for Jacksonville, Stanford, a 2011 Northeast Conference (NEC) first-team selection, became the first former Seahawk to see action in an NFL regular season game since December 19, 1971, when Wagner Hall of Famer Rich Kotite saw action in the final game of his career while playing for the Giants. In the season-ending 41-28 loss to Philadelphia at Yankee Stadium, Kotite caught a two-yard, fourth-quarter touchdown. His six-year NFL career began in 1965 following a stellar career on Grymes Hill that saw Kotite lead the Seahawks to a perfect 10-0 record in 1964.

Stanford along with Dallas Cowboy wide receiver Miles Austin are the only former NEC players currently on an active roster.

The Bloomfield, CT, native was one of four undrafted free agents to make the Jacksonville roster. The closest the Jaguars come to the tri-state area is a week 13 tilt at Buffalo on Sunday, December 2 at 1:00 pm.
