Somerset, NJ – Wagner College sophomore Otis Wright (Fort Lauderdale, FL/ Dillard) has been named Special Teams Player of the Week by three organizations - the NCAA, the Northeast Conference (NEC) and College Football Performance Awards (CFPA), following his spectacular afternoon returning kickoffs vs. Monmouth, a day highlighted by an 89-yard touchdown return.
 
Wright was tabbed as the NCAA.com FCS Special Teams Player of the Week, the NEC Special Teams Player of the Week and is one of four Kickoff Returner Performers of the Week named by the CFPA, along with Fabian Truss of Samford, Dartmouth's Miles Gay and Justin Grant from Richmond.
 
Wright sparked Wagner on several occasions during what was a career day for the sophomore, totaling 189 yards on five kick returns. In addition to the 89-yarder, which came on the first play of the fourth quarter, Wright nearly broke free on several other kickoff returns, as he ripped of a 37-yarder as well as another that went for 25 yards.
 
Wright's 89-yard kickoff return was the longest by a Seahawk since November 21, 2009 when Frantz Placide also had an 89-yarder for a touchdown in the season finale vs. Albany. The touchdown return was also the longest in NEC play since Central Connecticut's Josue Paul returned one 90 yards against Wagner on Oct. 30, 2010.
 
Wright is ranked fourth nationally in kickoff returns and first in the NEC at 34.67 yards per return. As a team, the Seahawks returned seven kicks for 230 yards vs. Monmouth and rank fourth nationally and tops in the NEC with an average of 30.10.
 
Wagner will take to the road this weekend when the Seahawks travel to New Britain, CT to face Central Connecticut in a 7:00 pm kickoff that will be carried live on MSG-TV and Fox College Sports.
