Dominique Williams Picks Up Two More Weekly Honors

Staten Island, NY – The accolades continue to stream in for Wagner junior running back Dominique Williams (Bridgeton, NJ/ Milford Academy) following his most recent sensational performance, a 23-carry, 177-yard, two-touchdown effort on Saturday that helped the Seahawks stage a dramatic 31-30 comeback win over Holy Cross.

Williams' virtuoso performance had already earned him his second Northeast (NEC) Conference Offensive Player of the Week award which was announced by the league office on Monday.

Today, Williams was named one of four players from across the nation as a College Sporting News National All Star and one of seven named College Sports Journal National Players of the Week.

Thanks in large part to Williams' 224 yards of total offense (177 yards rushing, 47 yards receiving on five catches) against Holy Cross, Wagner notched its seventh consecutive win, the longest streak by the Seahawks since 1988.  His five-yard score gave Wagner a 14-3 lead with 3:48 remaining in the first half.  After the Crusaders struck for 24 unanswered points to take a 27-14, Williams helped Wagner work its way back as his 10-yard fourth quarter touchdown reception pulled Wagner to within 30-24.

The latest explosive day turned in by the 5-9, 200-pound Williams marked his seventh 100-yard game of the season and vaulted him over the 1,000-yard mark as his 1,064 yards top the NEC. This marks the second straight year that Williams has eclipsed the 1,000-yard plateau as it comes on the heels of his 1,338-yard season of 2011. Williams becomes just the third Seahawks to ever post consecutive 1,000-yard seasons.

Seahawk Hall of Fame member Alonzo Patterson, the only player in Wagner history to have his number retired (No. 21), was the first Wagner player to accomplish this feat with 1,487 in 1981 followed by 1,351 yards in 1982. Rick Sarille, Wagner's all-time leading rusher with 5,290 yards, gained 1,479 on the ground in 1995 and then turned in a 1,285-yard season in 1997.
