Williams, Prime Named NEC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week

Somerset, NJ – Sophomore running back Dominique Williams (Bridgton, NJ/ Milford Academy) and junior linebacker Carl-Olivier Prime (Quebec, Canada/ Kent) have been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively for their efforts in Wagner's 38-28 season-opening win over Saint Francis (PA) on Saturday the league office has announced.

Williams, who missed all of last season with a knee injury, looked as if he had never been away in seeing his first game action in nearly two years. He accounted for 193 yards from scrimmage, highlighted by a 26-carry, 180-yard rushing performance. His 180-yard output was the top rushing game among all FCS backs in the nation. The 5-foot-9, 200-pound Williams also ran for two touchdowns, of five and 28 yards, in his first outing since being named one of Wagner's four team captains for the season. In addition to averaging 6.9 yards per carry, he caught one pass for 13 yards.

Williams capped a seven-play, 77-yard Seahawk drive with five-yard touchdown scamper with just 39 seconds left in the first half to give the Seahawks a 17-7 halftime lead. He set up his own score by gashing the Red Flash defense for runs of 20 and 19 yards earlier in the drive. After Saint Francis (PA) clawed to within 31-28 late in the fourth quarter, Williams put an exclamation point on his day and, in the process, sealed the win with a nifty 28-yard scamper into the end zone to fashion the final score at 38-28.

Prime delivered a game-changing 37-yard interception return in the third quarter and also came up with seven tackles and a forced fumble to help lead the Seahawks to their exciting opening game victory. The junior linebacker logged seven tackles (four solo, three assist) and made his first career interception one to remember.

With Wagner clinging to a 17-14 lead late in the third quarter, Red Flash QB John Kelly's bullet pass over the middle went right into the waiting arms of the 6-1, 245-pound Prime who had dropped back in pass coverage. The former high school running back then angled to the left sideline, tiptoeing his way to a 37-yard touchdown which staked the Seahawks to a 24-14 lead with 2:15 remaining in the third quarter. The play swung the momentum to Wagner's favor as the Seahawks went on to victory.

The Green & White are next in action on Saturday, Sept. 10 when the Seahawks travel to the Universiity of Richmond to meet the Spiders in a 6:00 pm kickoff. Richmond knockedd of FBS member Duke 23-21 on Saturday and is ranked ninth in The Sports Network/Fathead,com Top-25 Poll.
