Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College football team was on the field earlier this afternoon, all set for a grueling session of wind sprints. The Seahawk coaches, instead of blowing their whistles, began directing the players toward two buses parked along Howard Avenue.
What was expected to be two hours of hard work, sweating in the hot sun, turned into an afternoon of bowling at Rab's Country Lanes on Hyland Boulevard.
“It was just good to break up camp,” said Wagner head coach
Walt Hameline. “The guys needed a breather and I think they had a really good time. They've been putting in some tremendous work and we wanted to reward them.”
“They (the coaches) got us pretty good,” said junior linebacker
C.O. Prime (Quebec, CN/ Kent School). “We were definitely surprised. I was focused on running and mentally preparing for a tough afternoon and then all of a sudden we're headed to the bowling alley!”
