Indianapolis, IN – Senior Alex Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) is a recipient of the NCAA’s Postgraduate Scholarship, an educational grant awarded to 58 spring student-athletes  (29 men and 29 women). The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.

The Association awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 for men and 87 for women. The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Program was created in 1964 to promote and encourage postgraduate education by rewarding the Association’s most accomplished student-athletes through their participation in NCAA sports.

Tomlinson is the second Wagner College recipient of the prestigious scholarship.   Joy Gallagher, a member of the Women’s Basketball and Softball team,  received the award in 2006.

Tomlinson had a standout season on the Wagner College swim team. As a senior, she was named NEC Swimmer of the week (11/18), NEC Winter Honor Roll, and Second Team All-NEC in the 1650. The distance specialist also set a school record in the 500 Freestyle event with her third-place finish at the NEC Championships.

Tomlinson also earned a number of accolades for Wagner's Water Polo team. She was on the MAAC All-Academic team in 2007, 2008, and 2009 (freshmen are not eligible). She finished her career with the highest cumulative GPA on the team. Tomlinson is a two-time member of the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American list, having won the honor in 2007 and 2008. She also earned a spot on the SWPCA Academic All-American Team during her junior and senior seasons.

After an impressive senior campaign, Tomlinson sits fourth in Wagner College’s record books for goals scored (144) and sixth in career steals (94). She started all 29 games for the Seahawks in 2009 and led the offense with 46 tallies and 61 total points. Her 37.3 shooting percentage was tops among attackers and she was near the top in all other major categories including steals (34), turnovers (40), kick out’s drawn (25), and field blocks (8).

Water Polo finished with a combined record of 75-58 with a Conference mark of 30-12 during Tomlinson’s tenure at Wagner College. She helped the Seahawks to two MAAC Regular Season Championships and one MAAC Tournament Championship in 2007. In 2006, as a freshman, Tomlinson scored 23 goals and added 11 assists to help the Green & White to 25 wins – the most in programs history. During her junior year, the Seahawks earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament. They were eliminated in the first round by Stanford.

Tomlinson graduated with highest honors, summa cum laude. She received a B.S in Nursing with a 3.958 cum GPA.
