Poughkeepsie, NY – Second-seeded Wagner College (17-12, 8-2 MAAC) earned a 9-3 victory over fourth-seeded St. Francis (N.Y.) College in the consolation game of the 2009 MAAC Women's Water Polo Championship, held at the McCann Natatorium on the campus of Marist College.
Freshman Sara Olguin (Whittier, CA/Sonora) and senior Alex Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) led the Seahawks with two goals apiece in the contest. Sophomore Carina Giles (Mohton, PA/Mifflin), freshman Lauren French (Colmar, PA/North Penn), freshman Rebecca Hannings (Lansdale, PA/North Penn), senior Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/Temple City), and sophomore Laura vanderBent (Shillington, PA/Mifflin) added one goal each for Wagner.
The Seahawks held a slim 3-1 lead at halftime, but exploded to three goals in third period and three goals in the final quarter to open up a six-goal advantage.
Junior goalie Kelsey Rodgers (Anaheim Hills, CA/Fullerton JC) never let St. Francis (NY) score more than one goal per period. She shut out the Terriers in the second quarter.
