BOX SCORE

Baltimore, MD –
Wagner continued the offensive onslaught in game two of today's doubleheader, blasting UMBC 11-1 to sweep Saturday's doubleheader between the two teams by a combined 26-2 score. With the win, the Seahawks even their record at 2-2 and the Retrievers fall to 0-2.

All nine starters hit safely for the Green & White as juniors Joe Conforti (Staten Island, NY / Farrell), Damian Csakai (Freehold, NJ / Freehold) and sophomore Brian Martutartus (Carlsbad, CA / La Costa Canyon) led the way with multi-hit games. Conforti went 2-5 with two runs while Csakai was 2-5 with two runs and Martutartus went 2-4 with three RBI.

Lost in the offensive outburst was the stellar pitching of junior Kyle Morrison (Middlesex, NJ / Immaculata), who evened his recorded at 1-1 with the win. The hard-throwing righty spun 6.1 innings of one-run ball and struck out three while scattering seven hits and one walk. Through the first six frames, Morrison faced just three batters over the minimum while inducing two double plays. Sophomore AJ Pirozzi (Staten Island, NY / Farrell) relieved Morrison in the bottom of the sixth with one run home and runners on the corner and one out. The righty continued his impressive return from Tommy John surgery by inducing two ground-ball outs to quell the Retriever rally. Pirozzi closed out the game for the Seahawks with 2.0 scoreless innings.

In the top of the second, UMBC mounted the first threat of the game with back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. Morrison escaped the jam by inducing a double-play on Dustin Ferguson's bunt attempt. Morrison sprawled out to corral the ball with his bare hand before doubling up Tom Meaney at second base, for all intents and purposes ended the Retrievers scoring opportunity.

After being set down in order over the first three stanzas, Wagner struck for two runs in the fourth. Csakai led off with an infield hit before classmate Vin Avella (Matawan, NJ / CBA) blasted a two-run home run to deep left-center, his second of the day,  making it 2-0.

The Seahawks added to the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth. Senior Chris Drechsel (Cranford, NJ / Cranford) led off with a single through the right-side on a 0-2 pitch. Conforti moved him over to second on a successful hit and run with an infield single. Sophomore Jon Lucas (Hackettstown, NJ / Hackettstown) advanced the pair to second-and-third with a successful sacrifice bunt. Martutartus picked the pair up with a two-run line-drive single to right field, pushing the Wagner lead out to 4-0.

The Green & White tacked on three more runs in the sixth, using five hits. Sophomore Matt Logan (Wall, NJ / Wall) led off with a single before classmate Joe Jamison (West Caldwell, NJ / James Caldwell) doubled him over to third. Sophomore Seth Boyd (Perth Amboy, NJ / Perth Amboy) blasted a single up the middle, bringing around Logan while advancing to Jamison to third and moved to second on the throw. After a pair of outs, Lucas ripped a two-strike two-run single up the middle, pushing the lead out to 7-0.

The Seahawks tacked on four more runs on two hits and three errors in the top of the eight to provide final 11-1 tally.

UMBC's Austin Drewyer was charged with the loss, striking out three while yielding four runs over 5.0 innings of work. Meaney and Max Himmelstein led the Retrievers with two hits apiece.
