After a disappointing 2008-2009 campaign the Wagner women’s basketball team returns to the hardwood while looking to make the 2009-2010 season one to remember. The Green & White tip off the school’s 40th season of intercollegiate basketball at the hallowed grounds of West Point against Army on Friday, November 13 at 5:00 pm in Christl Arena.

Wagner has taken the NEC by storm, making an unexpected surge up the Northeast Conference standings and can lock up their first-ever NEC crown by winning their last two games. Following a 1-6 conference record in 2008, the Seahawks were picked eighth in the 2009 NEC Preseason Coaches Poll. Riding a four-game NEC win streak for the first time since the conference formed in 1996, Walt Hameline’s team owns a 5-1 league record and sits tied atop the standings with Central Connecticut State. Wagner’s 32-27 win gives it the head-to-head tiebreaker over CCSU, but the Seahawks still have two tough tasks remaining.

Staten Island, NY – Josh Daniell, a 6-8, 205-pound wing forward from national powerhouse St. Patrick’s High School in Elizabeth, NJ and Evan Pierce, a 6-2, 175-pound guard from Mt. Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh, PA, have signed national letters of intent to attend Wagner College and play basketball for head coach #Mike Deane#. Daniell and Pierce will enroll on Grymes Hill in the fall of 2010 and will have four years of eligibility.

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College Men’s Cross Country team earned the right to participate in the Regional Championships this Saturday, November 14th. The event, hosted by Boston University, will take place in Franklin Park in Boston, MA.

Somerset, NJ – Freshman QB #Nick Doscher# (Staten Island, NY/ Moore Catholic) was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Offensive Player of the Week and, for the fifth time this was season, tabbed NEC Rookie of the Week for his efforts in leading Wagner (6-3, 5-1) to its fourth straight win, a 32-27 victory over CCSU.
